The level of complexity depends on the specific device, available resources and the expertise of the team involved. Many organizations opt to collaborate with a contract design and development firm for a myriad of reasons.

Brittany L. Barrett, Ph.D. Brittany Barrett is the Quality System Manager within Battelle’s Medical Device Solutions (MDS) group. She oversees a staff of engineers and specialists to ensure compliance with requirements driven by customers, regulations, corporate policies, and procedures, and the MDS Quality Management System. Brittany has six years of experience in design and development of medical devices. She has experience with risk management, design control, contract design/selection, validations, auditing, Quality Assurance, and continuous improvement. Prior to joining Battelle, Brittany served as a Manager of Quality Engineering leading Quality operations at a medical device contract manufacturer where she also worked as a client-facing project manager in Business Development. Brittany graduated with her doctorate degree from The Pennsylvania State University in Bioengineering where she won a National Science Foundation graduate research fellowship. She earned her Bioengineering Bachelor of Science degree (Biomaterials concentration) from Clemson University. | |
Rick Brooks Mr. Brooks has more than 20 years of experience leading multi-functional product development teams. His background is in electronic systems design and has served in a variety of roles for product development projects for the commercial, government, and medical products industries. He has a superior blend of strategic management breadth and technical knowledge depth from his roles as line manager, program manager, chief engineer, and electrical design engineer positions. Mr. Brooks is a seasoned product development leader and manager, most recently taking on a Technical Leader role within the Medical Device Solutions Systems Engineering group. Prior to his current role, he had responsibility for the Market Discovery and Insights & Transformative Solutions division within the Medical Device Solutions business. Previously, he held various technical and project leadership positions over his career, including management of Systems, Software, and Electrical Engineering for contract services in two Battelle organizations, Chief Engineer, and Program Manager for all new product development at Rubbermaid Healthcare, and Project Manager for the development of a biological agent detection system for the DOD. He possesses vast experience with process improvements initiatives focusing on lean efficiencies for improved performance. He is a seasoned professional in business, project financial management, and long list of successful product development projects of state-of-the-art technologies and products including holding multiple patents. He has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineer from the Ohio University and a certification in Professional Project Management. |
