From Light to Insight: Imaging System Prototyping for MedTech Startups
Wednesday, October 29, 2025 (11:00 AM - 12:00 PM) (EDT)
Description
Bringing a MedTech imaging device from concept to clinic is a complex journey—Optikos and Lumicell are here to help streamline the path.
In this joint webinar, we’ll explore what startups need to know about lens selection, including image quality metrics such as Modulation Transfer Function (MTF), Field of View (FOV), and optical aberrations—and why these factors matter for clinical performance.
Learn how to accelerate development with fast, effective prototyping strategies that support early proof-of-concept and clinical trial readiness. Lumicell will share insights from their own development experience, offering real-world examples of how rapid iteration and expert optical design can drive innovation in medical imaging.
Whether you're refining your prototype or preparing for trials, this session provides valuable guidance to move your technology forward—faster.
Speakers
Dr. David Imrie, Optikos
Dr. David Imrie, Ph.D., received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Natal, South Africa, in 1993, and then spent five years working in the optics section of the National Physics Laboratory at the CSIR in Pretoria. During this time, he worked on a number of projects in both the military and commercial sectors. He joined Optikos in 1998 as a Senior Optical Engineer. He is responsible for engineering design services at Optikos and also regularly exercises his diverse interests by making optical, electronic, and software engineering contributions to many projects, including the new Meridian™ camera testing suite of products. Dr. Imrie is an expert at optical design, optical engineering, and metrology systems and has been awarded three U.S. patents.
Brian Schlossberg, Lumicell
Brian joined Lumicell in 2018 as Director of Medical Affairs and is currently responsible for leading development of new indications for Lumicell’s fluorescence imaging technologies. He brings over 15 years of product development experience from medical device start-ups. Prior to joining Lumicell, Brian served as Director of Research and Development at Osteonovus; a medical device company developing biomaterials for spine and orthopedic indications. Brian earned his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from The University of New South Wales, where he studied in the Surgical & Orthopaedic Research Laboratories under Professor Bill Walsh.
