Senior Reagent Development Scientist

Sherlock Biosciences is seeking an outstanding individual to join an exciting and fast-paced team focused on improving global health through highly innovative CRISPR and Synthetic Biology-based platforms for molecular diagnostics.  The Senior Reagent Development Scientist will lead development of a pipeline for the production, functional characterization, and enhancement of molecular diagnostic reagents.  The successful candidate will have deep experience in protein expression, protein purification, cell free expression systems and enzyme characterization with a proven track record of solving reagent development challenges.  She/he will apply a continuous improvement approach to reducing development cycles and efficiently transferring new technologies.  This is a cross-functional role collaborating closely with assay development teams, CROs, and external partners to produce, develop, and optimize molecular diagnostic reagents for a range of functional properties and applications.

Responsibilities include:

  • Establish pipeline for the production and characterization of proteins, cell-free extracts, and other assay reagents.
  • With general guidance, lead development and optimization of reagents to improve functional performance of molecular diagnostic assays.
  • Perform protein purification and cell extract production and generate quantitative performance data using a range of bioanalytical techniques.
  • Independently plan, manage, and perform experiments and projects.
  • Collect and analyze experimental data and identify next steps based on outcomes.
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of technical reports, protocols, data summaries, workflows, and project analyses.
  • Evaluate, document, and implement new approaches to improve reagent production and development efficiency.
  • Train research technicians and other scientific team members in methods and processes developed.
  • Write manufacturing SOPs and design verification and validation protocols and reports.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or similar field.
  • 6+ years of experience in protein expression and purification with 4+ years of industry experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experience managing CROs.
  • Experience with cell-free expression systems desired.
  • Experience with small-scale protein purification desired.
  • Experience with CRISPR based systems a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
