Program Officer - Biomedical Engineering
Remote (within the U.S.)
VentureWell has an exciting opportunity to hire new program officers to join our growing Biomedical Engineering Initiatives team. The ideal candidate has experience and/or training in biomedical engineering and medical technologies or related fields, with strong project and program management skills and thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. This role will be primarily project management for either the neuro track or in the diagnostic testing space, with the opportunity to contribute to other VentureWell programs as bandwidth and content expertise allow. We also seek staff who bring experience (work or lived) with groups identifying as marginalized by racism, sexism, or classism.
Responsibilities:
- Leverage biomedical engineering or medical technology domain experience to coordinate and implement new and existing program offerings with guidance from manager, including continually learning from evaluation findings to recommend program improvements and implementing process improvements while systems are “in motion”
- Work within defined program direction with funders and/or partners for successful program implementation, including creative problem-solving to deliver on funder and partner needs within time and budget constraints
- Design, plan, and facilitate effective meetings and internal/external stakeholder engagements
- Actively participate in internal collaboration and communication to ensure program success through use of project management tools and practices
- Leverage appropriate domain experience (related to science and technology innovation, entrepreneurship, global health, climate change and sustainability, early stage investing, startup acceleration or incubation, or in a startup) to program area, and leverage domain knowledge to develop content for new offerings, synthesize lessons learned into program design evolution, and provide thought leadership across the Program team
- Work towards actively advancing equity in the scope of individual performance goals, and broader contributions to VentureWell’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Ensure logistics required for successful program implementation are planned and executed in a manner that delivers excellence
- Update program materials developed by domain experts as necessary
- Prepare and synthesize written material for proposals and reports to funder or partners
- Work primarily under the direction and guidance of managing Senior Program Officer to identify needs and ensure proactive communication within VentureWell
- Work collaboratively along with other VentureWell BME personnel for program service delivery
- Ensure Senior Program Officer is fully informed of all areas of program and can prioritize troubleshooting and resourcing appropriately
- Act as a problem solver, identifying internal inefficiencies and pain points and communicate them internally and to relevant partner teams; partner with relevant teams on problem solving; operationalizing system improvements on a proactive and reactive basis
- Serve as a liaison between multiple VentureWell departments, modeling the Core Values while navigating fast-paced work in the midst of multiple, competing priorities
- Work closely with colleagues in Contracts/Finance and Shared Services to support external contracts relevant to the work
Neuro Track Responsibilities:
- Assist in curating a diverse vendor roster for the NIH Blueprint Medtech Program, management of vendor relations (including engagement) and sourcing appropriate vendors for programmatic requests
- Track and report data associated with Blueprint program in accordance to performance benchmarks
- Track project specific vendor and contractor deliverables and performance
- Help prepare programmatic budgets, standard operating procedures and facilitate with recordkeeping
Diagnostics Track Responsiblities:
- Assist in tracking and reporting data associated with Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx) programs and help compile internal and external reports related to programs
- Support programmatic needs for RADx projects, including administrative oversight, collaborative engagement, and record keeping
- Coordinate meetings, projects activities, and deadlines related to RADx projects
- Support teams awarded funding under RADx programs along with other teams comprised of internal and external partners
What You Bring:
- BS/BA or equivalent required
- Minimum 3 years related experience including project management or program administration, with domain experience in fields related to VentureWell program areas, specifically with training or experience in biomedical engineering, biomedical systems, bioengineering, neuroscience, medtech, medical diagnostics or related fields
- Demonstrated history of success utilizing project management skills, including ability to meet deadlines and coordinate multiple tasks with a wide range of stakeholders
- Ability to understand and apply appropriate tools and technologies used in the workplace; ease with adapting new technologies as needed
- High degree of digital fluency using cloud-based office tools such as GSuite, CRMs, team collaboration tools, and other web-based applications; ability to incorporate these tools into day to day work
- Track record of building solid, collaborative working relationships; strong team player who enjoys “customer service” orientation to collaboration internally and externally
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively across multiple content areas and stakeholder groups, both internally and externally
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills with an ability to articulate and synthesize information in a compelling, organized manner
- Ability to extract key information and data to recommend solutions
- Self-starter with strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work
- Highly adaptable and comfortable working with a degree of ambiguity
- Knowledge of award-based contracting, and/or Federal contracting and Procurement policy and process a plus
- Experience with entrepreneurship, or working with early stage companies/startups a plus
- Experience working with federally funded programs a plus

- a salary range of $70-80k commensurate with experience and internal equity
- 403 (b) with 200% match up to a maximum contribution from VentureWell of 10% when the employee puts it 5% (eligible after one year of service for the match)
